Google introduced Adoptable Storage with the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. You can borrow internal storage from the SD card, if you’re using Android version Marshmallow or above. In this trick, you should use a high-speed class 10 SD card as external memory.
How To Increase Internal Storage On Android Phone Without Root
The path for Format as internal may be different depending upon your phone specification. Take backup of your important data from SD card, as we are going to format the SD card.
Go to Settings > Storage and USB, tap the three dots on the right hand side and click the “Format as internal”.
Go to Settings > Storage > SD card, tap the three vertical dots on the top right corner of the screen, and tap storage settings. Here you will find the option “Format as internal” and click it.
After taping the “Format as internal”, click the “Erase & format” if you want to format your SD card as internal storage. Now follow the on screen instruction as shown on images below.
After the format process completes, you’ve the freedom to use your removable SD card as internal storage.
Note : Don’t remove the SD card without using the Eject option because it may cause errors on the device.
If your Samsung or any other Android phone don’t show “Format as internal” option, the tweak modify the external storage into adoptable storage.
You will be required to enable the USB debugging option in the Developer option and download the ADB shell on your computer. To enable Developer option, go to Settings > About device > Build number and tap Build number seven times. Once activated, you will see a message that reads, “You are now a developer”.
After enabling USB debugging, plugged in your phone to your PC using USB.
Now download ADB kits on your computer and extract the file.
Hold Shift button, press right click anywhere in ADB kits folder and tap open command window here.
In the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter.
Note down the device ID from the command prompt window.
To use the whole SD card as internal storage, use the below command (xxx,x being the device ID)
sm partition disk:xxx,x private
If you want to use some part of SD card as internal memory says, 25% of external memory, use the following command.
sm partition disk:xxx,x mixed 75
