Sometime Windows 10 start menu not working properly, if you’ve updated the Windows 10. If Start Menu does not open or Start Button is not working in Windows 10, the following are some things you can try to fix the problem “Windows 10 Start Menu not working”. Similar types of error Windows 10 Start Button Not Working , Cortana Not Working, Microsoft Edge Not Working, Windows Store Not Working, Icons not showing and software not starting.

Fixed : Windows 10 Start Menu Is Not Working

Solution 1 : Start Menu Troubleshooter

Download the Start Menu Troubleshooter from Microsoft website and run it. The troubleshooter checks for the following issues :

Start Menu application are installed correctly
Registry key permission issues
Tile database corruption issues
Application manifest corruption issues.

Solution 2 : System File Checker

Press the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys at the same time to launch Task Manager or right click the taskbar, the select “Task Manager”. Head to File > Run new task and type PowerShell, click the “Create this task with administrative privileges” and tap OK. In the Windows Powershell, type sfc /scannow and press “Enter”.

If the result are “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations”, it means that there is no corrupt files can be found. But you need to try solution 3, if you see the message “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them”. 

Solution 3 : Repair Windows Image

In the Windows PowerShell, type the following command to repair the windows image.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This command download the files from Windows update to replace the corrupt files.

Solution 4 : Reinstall Windows Apps

Copy and paste the following command in the Windows PowerShell and press Enter

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Wait until the apps download and installation process completes, ignore any red text that appears and restart Windows.

Solution 5 : Create a New User Account

Open the PowerShell Windows stated in Solution 2 and type the following command :

net user NewUsername NewPassword /add

Please don’t use any space and capital letters.

For example, in the above image earth is the username and move123 is the password. Log into your new account and see if has resolved your issue.

Solution 6 : Check for Updates

Press Windows key + R, type ms-settings and then select OK to open Settings. In Settings, choose Update & Security > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your PC if required.

Miscellaneous Solutions :

—>Open the task manager and find “Windows Explorer” in the processes. Right click on the Windows Explorer and tap on restart.

—>Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select sign out to your account to see if the issue has been resolved.

—>Disable or uninstall the anti-virus program from your computer and restart your device to fix the Windows 10 Start menu not working issue.

—>Delete the TileDataLayer folder in the AppData folder. (make sure you have “Show hidden files” marked in your file setting in the control panel)

C:\Users\*youraccountname*\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer

Now copy and paste the following command in the PowerShell Window

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
