You can install Android apps on your Chromebook using the Google Play Store app. You’ll need to have a Chromebook with OS version 53 and up. Currently, the Google Play Store is available for these Chromebook OS systems supporting Android apps. . If you’re using your Chromebook at work or school, you might not be able to add the Google Play Store or download Android apps without permission of your administrator.

How to Enable Google Play Store on Chromebook

#1. Chromebook already supports Android apps

Click on the status area and tap the Settings, then select “About Chrome OS” at the top of the screen. In the “About” window, click the “Check for and apply updates” button and once finished, click the “Restart to update” button. 

Now your Chromebook is updated, head to status area and click the Settings. Go to the “Google Play Store” section and check the box says “Enable Google Play Store on your Chromebook”. You’ll be prompted to agree to Google’s terms of service, click “Agree” to continue. Google Play Store app will open and you’ll be asked to accept some additional terms and conditions.

#2. Chromebook doesn’t support Android apps

Switching to the developer channel puts your Chromebook at the usual risks associated with running beta or preview software.

Note : make sure that all of your data is backed up before starting this process.

Click on the status area in the lower right corner and select the Settings > About Chrome OS > More Info > Change channel and select “Developer-unstable”. Read the warning notice carefully and click the change channel button.

Chrome OS will proceed to update your device, click the Restart button. Once your Chromebook reboots after applying the update, you’ll have the Google Play Store app in your apps tray. Open the Play Store app and accept the Google Play terms of service, click “Accept” to continue.
