The XBox 360 error “Open Tray Error” occurs, when you insert the disc, a few second later, it’ll ask you to open tray again and then it won’t even acknowledge that there’s a disc in the tray. The reason behind XBox 360 error is that the laser isn’t seated properly and can get stuck on the rail, XBox tray could be dirty, jammed, broken or disc could be scratched beyond repair. Here are some fixes, you can apply to solve your problem.
How to Fix Problem Open Tray Error in XBox 360
Solution #1. Turn off the machine with no disc in and turn on the machine by opening the disc tray. Physically force the disc tray in with little force. The tray should stop ajar for a few seconds before the machine composes itself and continues to retract the tray. Reboot the XBox 360 and the drive should function normally.
Solution #2. Go to Settings > Memory, then highlight your hard drive an press ‘Y’. A menu should pop up, press “Clear System Cache”, after it’s done reset your Xbox if it doesn’t do so automatically. Also delete temporary like gamerpics and installed updates.
Solution #3. Open up your disc drive and blow some air into the space, where the disc goes because dust or something gets on the laser that reads the disc.
Solution #4. Turn off your XBox, remove the power cord from the xbox and blow some air into the part of the cord.
Solution #5. Clean your disc by putting some cool water over the disc and then gently drying it either by dabbing it or by rubbing the disc from the inside to the outside of the disc.
Solution #6. Put a disc in the disc drive, close it and wait for it to load. If it says “Open Tray”, open and close the tray again, keep trying for at least 5 minutes straight.
Solution #7. Open the tray and put a disc in, then close the tray and start gently knocking on the XBox right above where the disc is inside the XBox.
Solution #8. Assuming you know how to open up your XBox, you’ll be able to see the parts of the disc drive. It consists of two parts, the part where the disc spins on, and the laser, which reads the disc and it sits just a little bit away from the middle of the drive. The problem occurs when the laser shifts out of position and sits near the outer edge of the disc drive. To fix it, simply just move the laser back to its original position and it will work again. Avoid touching the top of the laser because that is where it comes in contact with the disc and reads the data.
